In South-Asian custom, a marriage is not fulfilled until the bride has not worn gold. There is a custom in Bangladesh that a bridegroom needs to present an amount of gold to the bride before their marriage. This amount is negotiated by the people of both bride and bridegroom. Then at the marriage ceremony, the bride wears that gold presented by her bridegroom.
